The Bahamas Real Estate Association (BREA) is investigating a Miami-based sales entity which has set up a website to sell real estate in the Bahamas.
BREA was responding to an announcement by Paradise Is Mine, which says it will open a sales centre in South Beach, Miami, to exclusively market Bahamas property.
BREA president William Wong noted that only Bahamians who are members of the Bahamas Real Estate Association are licensed to sell real estate in the Bahamas.
The exception is Bahamas-based developers, who are allowed to sell their own property.
Ted Rover, director of sales for Paradise Is Mine, remarked that in the current global economic turn down, Bahamas real estate prices have remained stable. He found this remarkable. Paradise Is Mine would focus at first on sales in Rum Cay, Bahamas.
There are several reasons why you should use a licensed Bahamas Real Estate Association broker. To start with, they are knowledgeable in Bahamian law as it relates to real estate and keep abreast of amendments. Secondly, they will know which subdivisions have the necessary government approvals. This is very important as, from time to time, someone will attempt to sell property without the required approvals. People have even been known to sell property they don’t own.
Thirdly, they know the market. And they also know the lay of the land and all the quirks that go with the territory.
After all, it would be ludicrous for a Bahamian broker to move to, say, Boston and announce he was going to sell real estate. To start with, he’d need permission from the U.S. Department of Immigration to work in America. Then he’d need to be licensed by the appropriate real estate authority. And he would need to have first hand knowledge of the market in his territory.

UNEXSO, Pelican Bay, and the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism will welcome Legends of Diving to Grand Bahama March 30 - April 6, 2009. The purpose of the event is to recognize both U.S. and Bahamian diving legends who shaped the early developments of scuba diving, underwater photography, cave diving, marine research and animal identification. Nearly 100 guests including divers and non-divers are expected to attend the event.
Grand Bahama Island was chosen as the site for the International Legends of Diving event because of its rich culture, history, spectacular beaches, and shopping. Also UNEXSO is the home of the first dive training and resort center to teach scuba diving. Since 1965 UNEXSO has been in the same location showcasing incredible diving off shore, thrilling shark feeding and the world famous Dolphin Experience.
Joining the Legends of Diving will be a distinct group of scuba divers from across the U.S. – the VintageDoubleHose. This unique club only dives in period dive gear from the 1950’s and 1960’s and travels the world looking for the best dive sites to showcase their one of a kind diving equipment.

Last week, 2 representatives of Adidas, world-renowned athletic company, visited St. Kitts and expressed their intent to continue the relationship with St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (SKNAAA).
Spencer Nel and Sandra Vazquez arrived in St. Kitts to renew Adidas’ contract with the Federation for an additional four years, and told local media that they are pleased to further the young but strong relationship.
“Our sponsorship evolved from our sponsorship of Kim Collins, and we have had a fantastic relationship from there.
“It seems that the Federation is doing some wonderful work because it continues to produce some pretty decent athletes, as you can see by some of the junior medalists that have come through in the past couple of years, and we’re fortunate enough to have recently contracted Virgil Hodge to Adidas as well,” Nel, who serves as Adidas’ Global Head of Track and Field Sports Marketing, stated.
Adidas has also designed new uniforms for SKNAAA.
