British Virgin Islands-Makos Swim Club

The Makos Swim Club, the first swim club in the Virgin Islands, is proud of its many accomplishments, the most recent being its attendance and outstanding performance at the St. Thomas Stingrays Invitational.
This has all been made possible by David O’Neal and the Management of the Prospect Reef Resort where the team trains. The coaches and athletes are dedicated to hard work and they want to leave a mark for the Virgin Islands in the sport of competitive swimming.
During its most recent competition on June 3-5, 2011 in the St. Thomas Stingrays Invitational, the Makos did just that, they left an imposing mark. The competition included the Makos of the Virgin Islands, the Stingrays of the United States Virgin Islands and the Blue Finns of Georgia USA.
The Makos four senior swimmers displayed great talent and amassed 25 medals after competing in 28 events. Initially only 4 athletes were taken to compete, but three novice swimmers (Dimorii Maduro, Shamoy Todman, and Gregory Nelson II) who came along in support of the team decided they too wanted to compete having less than 2 months of competitive training under their belts.
With other Makos swimmers, family and friends there to support, the event definitely was a success not only for the swimmers, the coaches and the Makos Swim Club, but for the VIRGIN ISLANDS.
The Makos Swim Club greatly appreciates the contributions of The Prospect Reef Resort, Verne Wheatley, Myron Walwyn, The Virgin Gorda Charitable Company, and the Makos Swim Club family.

Aruba-Dream Wedding

The Westin Resort & Casino, Aruba continues to be an island leader in destination wedding events. The recent Cohen-Gazal wedding demonstrated how the dynamic Westin team continues to raise the bar and maintain a loyal clientèle. In 2003, the Cohen family travelled to Aruba from Panama to celebrate their daughter’s wedding. They were so pleased with the service of the Westin and the beautiful island of Aruba, that last week they returned to celebrate daughter Jenny’s wedding to Joseph “Yosy” Gazal.
Destination weddings require excellent long distant communication with the family to coordinate the various events, as well as accommodate the needs of all guests travelling to the island. Where the Westin event, banquet, and culinary teams excel, is catering to specific cultural and religious traditions and desires of the bride and groom’s families. The Cohen-Gazal affair required strictly kosher food, so Westin arranged for two kosher chefs from Exquisite Caterers to be flown in from New York to work with the Westin’s culinary team to create menus for all the events that were both gourmet and kosher. The Cohen-Gazal wedding is just one of many produced by the Westin, who tailors all events to suit the specific needs, cultures, and tastes of each bride and groom. From simple, intimate and tasteful to glamorous and extravagant, every bride and groom and every event is made to feel unique and special.
Almost 300 guests flew to Aruba to enjoy a long weekend of wedding festivities. This began on Friday evening with the Shabbat dinner, held under the alfresco grand tent setting at the resort’s Sea Breeze Terrace. A Shabbat luncheon was held on Saturday afternoon in the resort’s elegant ballroom. Sunday marked the big day, where a sunset beach wedding was held, followed by a cocktail reception with a chic toes-in-the-sand lounge set-up where guests relaxed and toasted to the bride and groom. Guests were then ushered to the resort’s Grand Caribbean Ballroom for a lavish dinner, followed by dancing until the early hours.

Cindi’s Sinful Cakes - Help for Bahamas Home Entertaining

chocolate rum cake 001
One bite and we were hooked.
Our front desk manager, Cindi Scavella, makes the most delicious rum cakes we’ve ever tasted.
Bahamas home owners love to entertain, but who has time to make home-made desserts? Cindi, the mother of two young children, loves to bake and finds the time.
Her delicious cake creations get rave reviews, time after time.
She does regular rum cake, guava rum cake and chocolate rum cake. Oh, and pina colada cake. Laced with rum, they are honestly the most moist, delicious cakes we’ve ever tasted. Even those of us who don’t have a sweet tooth can’t wait to hit the kitchen if we know Cindi’s brought a cake to work.
The regular and chocolate cakes are loaded with nuts and kissed with cherries. And the guava and pina colada are just wonderful. Cindi also does unleaded guava and pina colada cakes.
Cindi makes entertaining in our homes here in the Bahamas a lot easier.
If you want to try one of her cakes, shoot her an email at cindibowe@hotmail.com</
