Hitters force Game 5

The atmosphere at Basketball City could only be described as electric as game 4 of the exciting 2011 Rams Hitters vs Ghuat Bucs SKABA Finals series took place in front of hundreds of fans. Hitters entered the game with renewed vigor as overseas based player Marvin “Skywalker” Davis entered the line-up. Despite a horrid offensive night and fouling out late in the 4th quarter Davis gave the 19 time Champions Hitters the boost they needed against a hungry, exciting, talented Ghaut Bucs team.
Unlike Games 1 and 3 where Ghaut Bucs dominated from start to finish this game was much more keenly contested with both teams trading leads throughout.
Ghuat Bucs enjoyed a very slim 2 point 23-21 advantage at the end of the first quarter despite a huge output from Hitters forward David “Longman” Dowell who had 11 of Hitters 21 first quarter points. Bucs forward Kimo Liburd had 7 early points in the first quarter as well.
The final quarter began with Hitters enjoying a very slim 3 point advantage. Marlon “Jah Love” Powell continued his offensive onslaught and led Hitters with 7 fourth quarter points. Despite a huge 14 fourth quarter points from Dwight “Mac 11″ Jacobs the Ghuat Bucs fell just short with Hitters holding on for dear life to a slim 84-81 victory. Despite leading the game in turnovers Marlon “Jah Love” Powell was still no doubt the key factor in the Hitters victory and was once again the player of the game with 22 points and 3 assists and 2 block shots.
Game 5 takes place on Sunday with the winner taking home the 2011 SKABA Championship Trophy.

BVI Environmental Programme in second phase

The Island Resources Foundation, a non-government environmental leader in the Caribbean since 1972, has launched the second phase of its BVI Environmental Profile Programme. Research activities will commence in October for Virgin Gorda, to be followed in 2012 by similar efforts for Anegada. An earlier Environmental Profile, for the island of Jost Van Dyke, was prepared by the Foundation in 2009, in partnership with the Jost Van Dykes Preservation Society.
The Foundation brings considerable experience to the current project, having previously prepared Environmental Profiles for eight Eastern Caribbean countries. According to IRF vice president, Judith Towle, environmental profiles have long served as an effective way of helping to ensure that environmental issues are included in development planning.
Environmental Profiles are not just another research study, stated Towle, many of which are species-specific, site-specific, or sector-specific and do not comprehensively address environmental issues and conflicts. Environmental Profiles provide not only inclusive environmental information, analysis and recommendations, but do this within a single, island-specific document that makes this information available for easy access and use by policy makers, resource managers, researchers, developers, students and the community at large.
BVI Government support was secured through a generous grant from the Office of the Premier. In meetings with IRF earlier this year, the Premier Ralph T. O’Neal, acknowledged the importance of having Environmental Profiles available in the Virgin Islands to help guide better-informed public policy decisions.

Aruban Culture

The small island nation of Aruba is home to 80 nationalities - no surprise in light of itsturbulent multicultural history. Amerindian, Latin and European influences are found in every aspect of life, on the faces of the people, and in the names of streets and attractions.
Visitors to Aruba can absorb local culture without even leaving their resorts. Hotels and restaurants proudly display local artwork and have continual expositions throughout the year. Weekly outdoor markets showcase local handicrafts. Carnival theme nights with sumptuous buffets are popular dinner options. A special Musical Morning takes place on the last Sunday of every month from 11am - 1pm at the Manchebo Beach Resort.
The Bon Bini Festival takes place every Tuesday at 6:30 pm at Fort Zoutman, featuring traditionally-costumed folkloric dancers and local musical genres and instruments such as the cuarta, caja di orgel and steel pan. The works of local artists and artisans are also on sale.
Aruba’s museums reflect the lifetime passions of dedicated collectors, historians and archaeologists. Art galleries present exhibitions of the paintings, installations, sculptures, photography, drawings and mixed media of Aruba’s artists. Throughout the year, at Cas di Cultura and other locations, concerts and theatrical performances also showcase local talent.

Raising the Curtain on Bahamas Real Estate

Both homeowners and Bahamas Real Estate Association agents are best served when a home sells quickly for a good price.

There are many steps both parties can take to achieve that goal. As discussed, staging is proving its value - whether the Bahamas market is hot or cool. Statistics in the U.S. reveal that a “Staged” home will sell faster and for a higher price.

This service is called Staging because it’s basically about “theatre.” Your Bahamas Real Estate Association agent or a professional interior decorator assesses your home’s strongest and weakest features, and creates a series of “scenes” aimed to appeal to your “audience” of buyers.

There are four major areas of concern: cleanliness, openness, colour and… compromise. Cleaning your home seems obvious, but we’re talking about the White Glove treatment here - on every surface. Openness means a decided lack of clutter as well as arranging (or removing) furnishings to impart a sense of space.

The colours in your home and on its walls also convey this idea. Dark colours make a room seem smaller and light colours make it seem bigger. You get the drift.

But what about that “compromise” part? It simply means that we all understand that lack of time or budget makes it necessary to focus on those improvements that will have the biggest impact and not sweat every little detail. Ask your BREA agent for guidance and trust his or her instincts.
